There is a lot of confusion about what an LDA does. LDAs are required to be registered and bonded, and have a level of legal experience
and/or education. Formerly, this profession was known as independent paralegals, becoming legal document assistants in 2000. Because
Gomez is not an attorney, she cannot give legal advice or represent people in court. When clients need guidance or representation, Gomez
refers then to qualified and compassionate lawyers.
More than 50 percent of the documents Just Document Preparation prepares are for family matters: divorce, custody, support, visitation,
pension divisions, etc. Living trusts and bankruptcy petitions are also routinely prepared along with probate, adoption, guardianship and
most other court documents. “If we can’t do it, we will refer you to a professional who can,” said Gomez.
